Admission Requirements
Plan Now for Fall 2025
All application materials should be submitted as Adobe PDF documents.
Students must submit a complete application by April 15 for fall admission or September 15 for spring admission; applications received after this deadline may not receive full consideration. The
College of Education & Human Sciences is committed to student success and part of
that commitment is careful selection of students for admission.
Statement of intent (1-2 pages) detailing intended enrollment, autobiographical statement, educational and professional goals, and area of interest for future research;
Two letters of recommendation that speak to the individual鈥檚 scholarly aptitude and capability, particularly with respect to doctoral-level work;
Official academic transcripts from all institutions attended;
An academic writing sample that is a piece of scholarly writing that synthesizes multiple cited sources to support a particular point of view, argument, or claim.
- The applicant must be the sole author.
- The scholarly writing sample does not have a specific topic requirement; length should be at least 6 pages (enough to demonstrate the skills being evaluated).
- Topic and length (past the minimum) are less important than the writing quality, skillful analysis/argument, and the proficient use of scholarly sources.
3.0 or better (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average (GPA):
- Based on the applicant鈥檚 GPA in the last graduate degree or the last 60 hours of undergraduate work (for those with an undergraduate degree only);
- From a recognized baccalaureate, graduate, or professional degree from a regionally accredited college or university, or an international equivalent based on a four-year curriculum.
