Entrance Counseling and Master Promissory Notes

The federal government requires that first-time student loan borrowers complete Entrance Counseling and sign a Master Promissory Note (MPN) before their accepted loans pay out to their student account. Entrance Counseling provides information about a student's accepted loans and the repayment process, while signing a MPN confirms a student's awareness that they must repay on the accepted loans once they graduate, stop attending, or drop below half-time enrollment. First-time borrowers can complete Entrance Counseling and their MPN by logging in with their FSA account information on .

Parents who are first-time Parent PLUS Loan borrowers must sign a Master Promissory Note before their requested amount posts to their student's account. Parents interested in deferring their payments while their student is enrolled will need to request in-school deferment .

Annual Student Loan Acknowledgment (ASLA)

It is recommended that students and parents utilizing a Parent PLUS Loan complete the Annual Student Loan Acknowledgment (ASLA) each year they borrow a student loan. By completing the ASLA, students acknowledge that they understand their responsibility to repay the loans they have borrowed. If a student has existing federal student loans, they'll also acknowledge that they understand how much they owe and how much they are eligible to borrow. Students can also see other federal student aid information, including interest rates and repayment options, that help make managing their student loans easier. Exit Counseling

The federal government requires Exit Counseling for all students who have accepted federal student loans and either drop below half-time status, do not return to school, or graduate. Even if a student plans on returning to school upon completing their first degree, they must complete Exit Counseling once they successfully graduate. Students can access and complete Exit Counseling by logging in with their FSA account information on .
